Do you use LinkedIn to generate more business? Are you looking for ways to improve your LinkedIn strategy? As a small business, we certainly are. Based on perspectives we’ve gained from researching and experimenting with the best ways to engage on LinkedIn, we put together nine LinkedIn tips that we found to generate the most ROI.

9 LinkedIn Tips That Deliver the Most ROI

1.) Is Your Profile Complete and Up to Date?

LinkedIn Tips: What's Your LinkedIn Profile Strength?

  • Does your profile picture still look like you?
  • Does your profile convey the right message?

More likely than not, prospects, customers, vendors, and clients research you before they do business with you. Take the time to control what they discover about you and your brand.

2.) Is Your Company Page Complete and Up to Date?

If you haven’t created a company page for your business yet, it might be a very good time to set one up. Why? According to LinkedIn, “Company Pages are very SEO-friendly.” Google shows previews of up to 156 characters of your page text.

Tip: Pack the first 156 characters of your description with keyword-rich sentences.

Keep in mind, users can also search for companies by keywords on LinkedIn, so include words and phrases that describe your business, expertise, and industry focus.

3.) Are You Posting During High Traffic Times?

Research conducted by LinkedIn shows the busiest time on LinkedIn is mornings and midday, Monday through Friday.

Are you scheduling content to maximize the best times to post on LinkedIn?

5.) Is Your Profile Primed for LinkedIn SEO?

How to check:

Step 1. Create a list of keywords relevant to you and your business.

Step 2. Type these keywords into LinkedIn search. Review where you show up for each keyword.  Take a look at all the profiles that show up before you and look how often the keyword shows in their profile. (Note: you will need to be logged out of your account for your profile to appear)

Step 3. Go to your profile and make sure the keyword is in your summary, job descriptions, and headings.

6.) Are You Reaching the Right Customer?

Review your Company Page stats. Look for patterns that will tell you what top topics your readers are interested in and most importantly, if your content is resonating with the right audience.

Go to your LinkedIn Company Page and click the “Analytics” tab. Here you can review best performing content, demographics and more.

7.) Are You Conversing with Customers?

Once you are through reviewing your Company Analytics, click on the ‘Notifications’ tab to the right of Analytics. The Notification page “is your starting point for identifying opportunities to dialogue with LinkedIn members interested in and responding to your brand’s message.”

On the Notifications page you can:

  • See an overview of the likes, comments, and shares your company has received
  • View all public mentions of your company on LinkedIn
  • Engage with individual LinkedIn members as your company rather than as yourself
  • Receive an aggregated notification about your Company Page rather than multiple notifications, so it doesn’t interfere with your personal LinkedIn notifications

8.) Are Your Showcase Pages Updated?

If you are using Showcase pages, you already know you can use them for a variety of reasons. Review all your pages and update appropriately.

  • Update products and services
  • Post updated help and support content
  • Add new screenshots to product use cases
  • Include new customer stories (Success Stories, Testimonials)
  • Add your most recent job openings

This page contains everything you need to know about getting started with Showcase Pages.

9.) Are You Keeping Up with All Those Groups?

Are you “really” actively participating in all the LinkedIn Groups you follow? How about purging a few you haven’t kept up with? Are they still delivering value? Are there better ones to follow? Or maybe, now is the time to start that Group you’ve wanted to start.
